How to Help

Volunteer

Roll Call exists to honor and serve veterans in our community. Our mission is fulfilled when veterans’ needs are met, lives are positively changed, volunteers feel a sense of accomplishment and appreciation, and the community is fully engaged.

Who can Volunteer?

  • Everyone who shares our commitment is welcome, regardless of background, ethnicity, race, age, or gender.
  • We are inclusive and diverse, setting aside personal agendas and differences to support veterans and our mission.
  • Every member of the Roll Call family is valuable. Time, talents, and efforts are gifts that are respected, recognized, and never taken for granted.
  • The right role can be found for anyone with the heart to serve. Volunteers and Board members are given opportunities to learn and grow.
  • All work is valued equally, and every volunteer is treated with dignity and respect.
  • We support volunteers with meaningful tasks, clear training, and proper resources so they can succeed.
  • Volunteers are responsible for their work, conduct, and commitment to Roll Call’s veterans and mission.
  • Volunteers deserve open, accurate, and regular communication about activities and operations.
  • Volunteers bring credibility, insight, perspective, diversity, and expertise that strengthen our mission and impact.

Volunteer Opportunities

All volunteers complete an application and interview so they can be placed where they will make the most impact. Opportunities include:

  • Administrative Support: Making RSVP phone calls, updating spreadsheets, and other tasks that keep luncheons organized.
  • Luncheon Assistance: Setting up and decorating tables, checking in attendees, helping serve meals, refilling drinks, bussing tables, and visiting with veterans. ROTC and JROTC groups also present the colors at these events.
  • Veteran Outreach: With over 700 veterans on our roster, volunteers are needed across DFW to visit, share coffee or lunch, and connect veterans with resources. This program requires an interview plus orientation and training.
  • Special Events: Assisting at parades, festivals, and community events such as the Veterans Day Parade, Wings Over Dallas Air Show, and Azle Sting Fling. Volunteers help decorate, share Roll Call’s mission, and enjoy fellowship with veterans.
  • Mail Call Program: Writing to veterans. No training is required, but confidentiality guidelines must be respected at all times.
