Roll Call applied with the Department of Defense to be an official Commemorative Partner for the 50th Anniversary of Vietnam. At Roll Call’s monthly Veterans’ Appreciation Luncheon on January 26, 2018 in Fort Worth,Texas State Senator Konni Burton and her staffer Jonathan Silva, a regular attendee of Roll Call luncheons, joined in a surprise “pinning ceremony” for local Vietnam Era veterans. A representative from Congresswoman Kay Granger’s office was also on hand, Kristen Vandergriff.
Over 100 Vietnam Era veterans were called to the stage and pinned by Roll Call Board members with the DoD official 50th Anniversary lapel pin, in front of a crowd of 300+. Burton shook their hands as they exited the stage and provided them with a Presidential Proclamation regarding the official recognition of the 50th Anniversary. A line of people shook their hands and gave them the proper “welcome home” they did not receive all those years ago. It was an emotional experience for many of these veterans. They were so appreciative of the outpouring of love and respect shown to them at this special event.
